Signed to George Leaner’s M-Pac! in 1966, the Ringleaders were a seasoned vocal group anchored by Saginaw, Michigan talent and led by the commanding voice of Willie Hawkins. Their driving “Baby, What Has Happened” b/w “All My Life” (originally known as “Sweet Little Girl”) captures both sides of their sound—urgent, dancefloor-ready soul and rich, harmony-driven songwriting. Though only a handful of sides were recorded, their catalog has grown into cult status, with acetates circulating for decades and becoming prized plays on the Northern Soul scene.
