The Desidero’s lone 1960 release on Leo Austell’s Renee label connects directly to the early roots of the Chi-Lites. The group included Marshall Thompson and Creadel “Red” Jones, who would go on to co-found the Chi-Lites just a few years later, along with vocalist Eddie Sullivan, who recorded solo efforts for Austell under the name Eddie Sull.
“Flat Foot Charlie” b/w “I Pledge My Love” captures that pre-Chi-Lites moment—firmly in the doo-wop tradition, with a style that points toward the smoother soul sound that would follow later in the decade.
