Fronted by Cuban-born pianist and composer René Touzet, the Cha-Cha Rhythm Boys were a small-but-mighty New York rhythm unit that hit hardest during their Fiesta Records era. Touzet came up leading his own orchestra in Havana, relocated to the U.S.
In 1945, and chose to pass on a path into TV fame alongside Desi Arnaz to remain a bandleader on his own terms. He later recorded bigger, more polished LPs for GNP, but don’t overlook the Fiesta material. “La Basura” is a tune they recorded twice—once in 1957 and again in 1960—and we’re dropping both versions together today.
