The Blendtones formed in Des Moines in 1959 as Little George and the Del-Rays, a local vocal group built around Little George Davis. By 1963, with a revised lineup, they recorded a handful of sides for Success Records before disbanding soon after.
“The Slide” b/w “Come On Home,” released in 1963 and written by Davis, shows both sides of their sound. The A-side leans upbeat and easygoing, while the flip is more restrained but still firmly rooted in danceable R&B.
